Using PressReader
You can download any issue for offline reading using the PressReader application. This is great for people who want to read their favorite newspapers on their laptops or smart mobile phones when they travel or commute.
Before you can download publications for offline reading, you must install PressReader on your computer or mobile device and authorize it using the instructions below as a guide.

Remember, you must have administrative rights for your computer in order to install PressReader.

To install PressReader:
Click on the Get PressReader button in the left menu on the home page of PressDisplay.com
OR
Choose one of your preferred publications and select the download icon to the left of the front page of the publication or in the toolbar at the bottom and you will be prompted to click on a link to access the Download page.
From the Download page, click on the download button that corresponds to your operating system:
- Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7
- Windows Mobile 5.0 Device
- Windows Mobile 5.0 Smart Phone
After installation has been completed, PressReader will appear under Start > Programs > PressReader. PressReader will also be saved as a shortcut icon to your desktop for easy access. On your computer hard drive, PressReader will appear under Start > Program Files > NewspaperDirect > PressReader.

Authorize computer
Authorization is required for proper functioning of PressReader. It enables the server to prepare the publications for download to the specified computer of your choice (even a remote one). PressReader allows you to authorize a maximum three computers and three smart mobile devices.
When you install PressReader and run it for the first time, the software will prompt you to authorize a computer and assign a name to it for easy reference (such as "Home", "Office", "Mobile"). Please note, that no personal information is collected or communicated to our servers.
Alternately, you can complete the following steps to authorize your computer:
- Run PressReader
- Under Options > Accounts > Authorize New, enter the following information
- User Name (either email address or user id used to sign up to our on-line site)
- Password (same as the online password)
- Computer Name (choose any name you wish such as: Work Computer, Home, Mobile)
The number of devices which can be authorized for an account are: 3 computers/laptops and 3 smart mobile devices running Windows Mobile 5.
Deauthorize computer
Deauthorization of your computer is necessary if you plan to uninstall PressReader on one machine in order to use it on another.
To deauthorize a computer:
- Open PressReader from your Programs menu and select Options > Accounts > Deauthorize
- Provide your username/password for that specific account (same username/password used to log on to your account online)
- Click 'deauthorize'

To uninstall PressReader:
First deauthorize the computer on which PressReader is installed. To deauthorize a computer:
- Open PressReader from your Programs menu and select Options > Accounts > Deauthorize
- Provide your username/password for that specific account (same username/password used to log on to your account online)
- Click 'deauthorize'
Once the computer is deauthorized, click Start > Programs > PressReader > Uninstall to complete the process
If you have any problems, don’t hesitate to contact Customer Support Team and provide them the name of the PC(s) that need to be deauthorized.

To download a publication to your computer, open the publication you want to save on PressDisplay.com and select the download icon to the left of the front page of the publication or in the toolbar at the bottom. A dialogue box will open and prompt you to select the computer on which you wish to save the publication.
Once you choose the target computer and click , PressDisplay.com will download the publication to you system. This can sometimes take a few minutes, depending on the size of the publication. Open PressReader and click on File > Check for new issues to see the latest issues saved. Just click on the one you want to read.
PressReader allows you to manage publications in your personal library. Some issues will be self-managing and automatically removed as per publisher requirements, while other publications will remain until such time as you choose to delete them.

You can subscribe to automatic downloads of publications when new issues are published. First, click on the “My Subscriptions” link in the left menu to open the subscription page. Then click on the New Subscription button at the top right corner of the PressReader application. A dialogue box will open which allows you to set:
- The authorized computer where the publication should be downloaded
- The publication to download (specify it using drop down lists of countries and titles)
- A Start Date to indicate when the automatic download should take effect
- The End Date when the subscription should expire
- The days of the week on which you want the automatic download to occur
- Printing options for the downloaded publication
- Any comments for your own information on this particular subscription
Now every time you open PressReader, it will download the issues you’ve requested immediately.
PressReader can be customized to meet your individual needs: simply select Options > Preferences.
The General tab allows you to set your preferences for account maintenance, such as how often the server should check for new issues of your subscribed publications.
You can also manage the auto clean up of publications by selecting the number of days you would like to keep publications in your Library. Note, some issues will be self-managing and automatically removed as per publisher requirements.
The Print tab allows you to set up the print parameters for your account. Simply select from which printer you would like to print and additional settings from the Printer Settings button.
The Connection tab allows you to authenticate a proxy server. The Proxy Server is a piece of software that communicates with your Web browser and the NewspaperDirect server. The Proxy Server intercepts any requests sent to the NewspaperDirect server and checks if it can fulfill the request itself.

Q: How do I set up the Proxy Server on my computer?
A:
- Select Options > Preferences > Connections
- Identify your proxy server and/or port.
- The proxy username and password is the same as your PressDisplay account.

The UI settings tab allows you to customize the manner in which you choose to read your newspaper within PressReader. UI settings are available under Options > Preferences > UI Settings. By simply checking/un-checking the viewing options readers can customize their reading modes. The options available for customization include:
- Enable Page-Flip Animation
Just like a printed newspaper, readers can choose to have the pages flipped.
- Enable Zoom Animation
Zoom animation allows for a smooth gliding zoom-in to any page.
- Invert mouse drag direction
Reverse the direction the object moves as you navigate the pages.
Some users may experience difficulty installing PressReader if their computer is firewalled (Microsoft Windows XP SP2, ZoneAlarm or similar). If this is the case, access to the Internet for PressReader will need to be unblocked when prompted.

In the My Library folder of the PressReader application your downloaded publications are listed chronologically starting with the most recent. You can sort them by title or issue date by selecting the appropriate column title. By default you have access to these issues for up to seven days at which time they will be deleted from your library. You may change this setting in the Preferences menu, however, availability is subject to publisher restrictions. To delete an issue, right click it and choose delete.

You can print single pages of a publication in PressReader. Just open the page you want to print and click on the icon at the bottom of the display. If you would like to print an article, just open the article in text view by clicking on its title and then click on the icon at the top of the text window.
A dialog box will prompt you to choose a destination printer and paper size.
Most home printers are capable of printing newspaper or magazine pages using PressReader. For correct and optimal printing, the printer must support the printing of large files. Depending on the individual newspaper file size, your printer may print incorrectly, due to lack of internal memory. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.
Work with a proxy server |

If your connection to the Internet requires access through a proxy server, open PressReader and click on Options > Preferences > Connection. Fill the required fields. For more detailed information about proxy settings, please contact your system administrator.

iRex Digital Reader
Publications on NewspaperDirect's PressReader application are also available to read on the iRex Digital Reader 1000 series.
To view publications from PressReader on your iRex device, use the following steps:
1. Download, install and authorize the latest version of PressReader on your PC.
2. Use the "Save" icon next to the front page of any publication to download it to PressReader.
3. Connect your iRex Digital Reader to your computer
4. Open PressReader and open the My Library folder on the left of the application. It will show your downloaded publications. Click on the publication you want to transfer and then click File->Export to iRex
5. In the Save As dialog, choose the disk drive for your iRex (e.g. E:\) and browse to your "PressReader" folder. Choose Save. Note that depending on the size of the publication, this step could take a few minutes.
6. Once the transfer is complete, you can continue to transfer publications to your iRex DR one at a time.
7. When you are finished, remember to close the PressReader application so you can safely un-mount the iRex Digital Reader.
8. Now, turn on your iRex and tap on the PressReader icon on the Home screen. This will take you to the PressReader folder on your SD card where you can find all your publications.
9. Tap on the title you wish to read, and in a few seconds you'll have the entire publication available to read at your leisure.
